It’s been an interesting start to 2011.
Tuesday was supposed to have been my first day at a new job.
Instead it turned into first trip in an ambulance, first broken bone and first plaster cast. I discovered the hard way that the street outside my door had a layer of ice on it by taking two steps, slipping over and landing on my left arm. I literally couldn’t get up off the ground without passing out from pain and was in tears so I called 999. The paramedics gave me gas and air which was great and them I spent hours waiting round to be x-rayed. I could only be given a temporary half-cast because of how swollen my wrist was so I was given an appointment for Wednesday for the fracture clinic.
Wednesday brought another first – first bus ride since… ooh since I left college like 12/13 years ago. It also reminded me how much I hate public transport and ugh those buses were from the arc! Total bone-rattlers that had me in tears. My appointment was 11:30 and I finally got seen at 14:00! The place was heaving. The receptionist said 60 people were referred from A & E the day before, all having fallen over on the ice!
The orthopaedic doctor looks at my x-ray (and I got to see it too) and told me my wrist wasn’t fractured like I’d been told but that it was actually broken. It was still too swollen so I have to go back next Tuesday for another exam, another set of x-rays and hopefully to have the cast fitted.
My awesome friends of awesome reasserted their awesomeness though. My friend WinchesterWench tweeted Riley Smith saying “Hey @Riley_Smith, a big fan of yours, @BADFalcon, fractured her wrist today, can you send her some love?”
And a few hours later I get a “get well soon” from Riley
♥
I can also feel a rambling Riley fangirl post coming on but it might take me a while because this typing one handed business is HARD!

*hugs* I hope 2011 doesn’t bring any more bad luck like this! I hope your arm heals quicker than expected. This is one of the reasons I feel lucky to live in Australia where it doesn’t snow or ice up! I have had many finger fractures (so not cool) but never properly broken a bone.
Public transport is okay here, but it’s still not a hundred percent desirable.
Take care <333
Hahaha! Thanks
It’s been pretty good so far.
How’s your day been?
That’s cool you’ve met people online and still are friends with them. I’m the same way really. I’ve stayed in touch with most of the people I’ve met online and what not. But the only persons I initially stayed in touch with was my ex friend’s (guy who just wanted to have sex and nothing more) mom, and my friend Stephanie. I’m just hoping it’ll work out between my Japanese guy friend and I when he comes out here in the spring and what not. Heehee.
OUCH! I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you’ll recover soon and quick! My Grandmother, slipped and fell on a wet sidewalk when it was raining. We told her to stay inside because that night was my little sister’s birthday, and well; she didn’t want to wait so she put on her jacket and got the presents for my sister, and we were turning around the corner and saw her go down. She broke her arm, and had to have it in a cast and that was a long time ago, and before that, she slipped and fell into the bathtub, and fractured her ribs. YEOUCH!. But I wish you a speedy recovery and take care!
That’s really no good about your arm! I hope 2011 is better for you hun!
That sooo sucks that you broke your arm. I’ve yet to find out what breaking a bone feels like; though I did compress the knuckle in my right ring finger a couple years ago, so my finger occasionally locks up on me. >o< Hope your injury gets better sooner than expected. x] Typing with one hand does suck terribly without a doubt. D:
I also know what it's like to have something too swollen to be addressed properly right away. I had a bicycle accident when I had just turned twelve, and my knee had swelled up so bad they couldn't tell if I'd broken something in my leg or not when looking at the x-ray. I fortunately hadn't broken anything, though that was probably the worst injury I ever had… by the time I was fifteen, I had to have surgery done to put my knee cap back in place. X_X;
D: I hate it when its a first day of something and something horrible goes bad! I hope you will be alright D’: One way or another.
Broken bones are no funny matter! Gotta get that taken care of! I hope it isn`t broken to the point where there`s no healing to go around D’:!
Take care! and I wish you the best recovery!
I hate it when ER’s lag. I`m serious. D’:!
Aww… get better soon! I’ve never broken anything in my life, but I can only imagine the horrendous pain that it would involve. I hope that your new year gets better!
Yikes! That’s awful that you broke your arm. Was it black ice? At any rate, I hope your arm heals fast. Was it a clean break?
I have revealed my “big secret” on my blog lol.
It was a good year, but it could be better:D Anyway I will make 2011 the best year in my life! I want to achieve every dream!
I am so sorry for your accident. I hope you feel better and get to work soon. Riley Smith? It’s amazing. I a big fan! I love him, and all his movies!
Next time be more careful with the ice, oke?
